Heesen Yachts is a Dutch shipyard founded in 1978 with a renowned reputation for building high performance super-yachts. Catia V5 was implemented to support the transition from a 2D drawing based drafting process into a 3D model based drafting process. Mechanical engineering, construction and interior design departments are working in close cooperation facilitated by one streamlined workflow using a template based 3D model strategy. In close cooperation with the naval design department preliminary space reservation and styling models were developed to inform clients and prospects about their builds in an early stage of the project, as well as for promotional and sales activities.
The succesful implementation of this 3D model strategy across all departments of the shipyard has contributed significantly in reducing lead times by optimizing drafting processes and improving communication between the design departments.
